  • 1838 Railway to Woking common opened
  • 1854 Brookwood Cemetry opened (the reason modern Woking exists)
  • 1858 Woking Prison building started
  • 1889 Shah Jehan mosque (first in UK) opened
  • 1895 H.G. Wells moves in and writes The War of the Worlds
  • 1970 Goldsworth Park development started
  • 1983 Woking twinned with Amstelveen
  • 1992 Peacocks shopping centre and cinemas opened
